I got a line on a 383 stroker for cheap. Question is, would I need to have a chip burnt for it to work properly in my truck? Here are the specs I got from the seller.
9.25:1 compression ratio
High performance rod bolts and nuts
Performance valve springs with retainers
High volume oil pump
Double roller timing set
Flat top hypereutectic pistons and moly rings
New Harmonic balancer
ARP Pro series rocker studs
Dart cylinder heads w/76cc combustion chambers
High performance stainless steel valves: 1.94 Intake; 1.50 Exhaust
High performance bearings
Fel-Pro performance head gaskets
Four bolt main block
3.750 stroke performance crankshaft
Hydraulic Camshaft with good midrange torque
050 Duration: 214° Intake; 224° Exhaust
Advertised Duration: 288° Intake; 298° Exhaust
Cam Lift: .295 Intake; .310 Exhaust
Valve Lift: .443 Intake; .465 Exhaust
Lobe Center: 107° Intake; 117° Exhaust
It also comes with an Edelbrock intake manifold, Edelbrock shorty headers, MSD distributor, Fairly new starter, and I'll also throw in the TBI as well.

Yepperssss....

It's my understanding that pretty much anything beyond stock specs will require a good tune and/or re-chip.

Yeah, I figured as much. Does the ECM in a '93 control the tranny, too or is it a seperate control module? In other words, can I have the chip programmed to control my shift points, speedo etc...?

You will NEVER get a TBI 383 to run right. Ask Green95Hoe.

TBI is untunable and garbage in general.

Save your money and do a 5.3 or 6.0 swap.

Please please don't do it. Why do you think it is for sale for cheap?

I'm really looking to do a plug and play swap with more power. I need to read up on the 5.3 and 6.0 swaps to see what exactly is involved. I don't want to break the bank, either.
