I mentioned a few months ago that I was hoping to swap the crappy factory console with a decent center seat. I did eventually accomplish this. So between the GMT400 Escalade seats now resides a jump seat from a more recent GM pickup (2008? 2009? I forget now)

To make it fit, I removed the fold-down armrests from the Escalade seats, and I had to slot the mounting holes for the floor bolts so that both outboard seats move about 1/2" outward, for a total of 1" of added space between them. I bought an adapter bracket from obsoutpost.com intended for gen 3 center seats. It's a very solid, well-made piece, but it needed some modifications because I insisted on retaining the factory GMT400 seat belt buckles without relocating their anchors.
Everything works beautifully. I now have a much nicer armrest when the seat is folded down, in addition to 3 more PROPER cupholders in place of the 1.5 garbage ones in the old console (and another bonus 2 cupholders for the rear seats). There's prodigious amounts of storage in both the folded seatback and the bottom of the seat that makes the old console seem like a dinky little lunchbox. Plus I can now accommodate a 9th person in my Suburban.
For anyone worried about the structural integrity of the modifications, I got rear-ended violently the day after I installed that center seat. The Volvo wagon that hit me was going fast enough to lift the entire rear end of the Suburban and knock it aside. All 3 front seats had occupants at the time. All 3 of us were fine, and the seats survived without issues. The Volvo was a total loss. The Suburban's rear bumper was wrecked and needed replacing, but that's about it.
