I've always called them Ball Vents. My 87 and 88 Cavaliers had them, as well as both my current trucks.

Its actually quite nice in the summer. Turn the A/C on, and hold your shorts openings in front of the vent. Nothing cools your whole body of quicker than having a nice breeze on your junk.

And no, 88-94 do not have this "feature"

I honestly think they are the best freaking vent on the planet. I wish my 88 GMT400 had it and that my 02 GMT800 had it. I use A/C on dash vents in summer and i heat with defrost or floor, never vent (dislike the hot air in my face) so it's never a ball warmer.
