What goes into a tranny swap?

So in my '98, the trans 3-4 clutch went. I don't possess the time or ability to rebuild it, nor do i have the money to get it rebuilt. So I'm buying a parts truck with a friend, and we're taking all the parts we need off of it. The parts truck is a 96, ECSB like mine. Would the trans swap? I saw somewhere they would, but that the tail housing might be different. If that is true, could i use the 96's transfer case instead of swapping tails? And will I need to do anything with my ECM or computer?

that trans in the parts truck will work in your truck 96/98 are the same only one thats different is 95
