today i decided to shorten my drive shaft my self instead of paying $120 for someone to do it for me, heres what i did. it may not be the correct way so dont bust my stones!
first i took a paint marker and drew a line down the end of the driveshaft so i know where to line it up when welding it back in place, next i cut a slight cut around the front yoke with a grinder.

then i took a hammer to tap off the old yoke, if i did not move i just cut a little deeper with the grinder.

next i measured from t case yoke to axle yoke with the truck on the lift to get the max length, i got 33'' and mine was 34.5'' so i new i had to cut at least 1.5'' off the shaft. measured and inch and a half in from the end of the shaft where i cut the yoke off then took a pipe cutter and cut it off. next i took a file and filed down the inside of the shaft.
next it was time to fit the yoke back onto the shaft. from the factory the ends of the shaft where the yoke is, is flared out a little to in order to get the shaft to fit around the yoke again i took the torch and heated it up and tapped it flush with a hammer. after i fitted up in the truck and new it would work i welded the seem back together.

i took it for a spin and there where no vibrations or noises so i am not going to get it balanced. in all took about two hours and cost me nothing in the end so i am very happy with it.

Thats a good way to do it. I have also made a jig using a set of skateboard trucks and wheels so I could roll the driveshaft without it moving. Worked really well.
