Hey guys. I have a 1998 tahoe. 350 vortec and a 4l60e. Well it just turned 151000 miles and i wanna know about going about the service of my transmission.
The atf fluid is still a red color so does that mean its still good? My transmission is in great shape, shifts smooth and i would like to keep it that way. Any answer would be nice.

If its a nice red I would leave it be. And if you do have it serviced. DO NOT have it flushed. Just replace the fluid. But if the fluid still looka good them I wouldn't even bother. You can suck some up the dip stick tube and hold it up to the light in a clear jar and see if theres and metal suspended in it.

I would do a basic pan drop and replace the filter, then just add back what you lost by dropping the pan. I would not flush but changing the filter is routine maintenance for any vehicle.

Would it be too much to ask to get a picture of a "good red."
Like mines red but I'm unsure because these trucks are funky and I'm not sure what to look for.

Well i checked the fluid and its darker than the middle. Is there a good write up of a nonflush setup because every 4l60e is flushing.
Do i just drop the pan?

to change the fluid you do need to drop the pan its just a preference of mine but i would go ahead an put a new filter on while i had the pan down. i use car jack to hold the pan lightly while i remove the bolts. most of the time you can wiggle the pan loose with the bolts out if it dosent come loose gently pry down on the corners of the pan that should get it loose. this can be a messy job you will also need something CLEAN to catch the fluid when you put the gasket on the pan dont use silicone to hold a transmission builder told me that it can be death on a stick for a transmission. i hope this helps.

Thanks. I was planning on the filter anyway. But it helps. The real question is how much do i know to re add. Because i heard overfill is just as bad. I have no idea if thats true.
