Transmission upgrade for 1997 Sierra 4.3

What performance transmission is available for the 4.3 V6 automatic? I need something for towing a trailer.

For a V6? I'd stick with the 4L60e and tow slowly. How big a trailer are you planning on hauling?

A 12ft flat bed double axle. But, I‘m driving through Texas Hill Country.

Are you going to be towing often or just a couple times a year? How heavy is the load?

If you're truly concerned about the transmission, it's probably time to step up to a 2500.

Yeah, I know I need a bigger truck but this one just had a new motor installed and I only have 3k on the motor. Moving to another town. Even when not towing the trans is constantly shifting. I can say the word incline and it will shift. Lol

Stack up on some good karma and then tow nice and easy.

Even if you put in a 4L80 in it's just going to make that shifting problem worse. It's not the transmission's fault the engine doesn't make enough horsepower to get up the hill.

A 4L80E will bolt up and work but there's quite a bit involved in the swap. I went from a 4L60E to a 4L80E in my '97 C1500 with a 4.3L, there's a thread on it here.

The 262 V6 is six squirrels on a treadmill. I've had two and both times I told myself "Wow,I could have had a V8"
I tell people time and again,when towing with a overdrive transmission take it out of overdrive.
