Manual transmission - which years and vehicles?

1997 W/T 1500 2wd 4.3 4L60E

The 4L60E has been slowly degrading the past few years and is almost done. I hate auto transmissions and would prefer a manual.

Will an NV3500 from any Chevy or GMC from 88 to 98 work?

Is the NV3500 in the 4.3 equipped S-10 the same as the NV3500 in a full size?

Will my current driveshaft length and yoke/spline count be the same?

I searched a bit on the interwebs and found some conflicting info, but several things I've read said that the S-10 NV3500 has a 27 spline output shaft and the full size version is 32 spline. Also it was mentioned the S-10 is a 5 bolt and the other is a 6 bolt. A few things also said the shifter is in a different location.
