Im in the middle of swapping out the 4l60e in my wife's 96 k1500. I got a nv3500 from a 88 k1500 but the 96 np241 won't fit on the 88 output shaft. My question is can i get a bigger input for the 96 np241 32 spline i think and having never split open a tc is this something i could do myself?

Yes it can be done. You need the transfer input from a manual truck (any manual GMT400) or a 4l80 truck. Iv never done one myself, and have no clue how much is involved. May be better off to find a whole transfer out of a manual or 4l80 truck and swap it in, and sell your transfer case. The input shaft is the only difference.
