So some other financial stuff came up. (IRS sent us a bill for 3k.... Imagine that ****) so the tune was put on hold. Jeep has been driven here and there over the past month. Occasionally limps but not often still. Finally got it to the dealer this week with a light on yesterday. A whole slew of codes came up.
Most were body, audio and lighting related.
Four were for the tire sensors since it doesn't have any. (shhhhh)
And three would be relative to my limp mode issue.
One was a cam sensor bank 1 sensor 1. It was a stored code.
Next was turbo over boost condition -stored
Last was turbo boost control circuit - stored.
As I was chatting with the lead tech, my pager went off. So I high tailed it to the station, no issues, but on my way back to the dealer, the sucker actually limped!!! So the lead tech hooked it up again. Now showing active underboost condition code. Perfect! The VGT controller is the culprit here.
New problem. Dealer sells complete new turbo for a cool $5,000. Can't just buy the actuator that's bolted to it with 3 bolts.......
Start digging around some forums.......only one reputable place to get a reman gutted unit, for $600 that may still experience circuit board failure. They have a 1 year warranty just because of this. But still. $600 is a hefty bill for a reman unit that may or may not even work.
So I did more digging. Found a few Amazon ads for brand new units, all advertised as an updated part number to replace two faulty old units. For $125
No mention of these on any forums, dealer wouldn't have a clue what I was talking about if I asked them. I think I'm gonna give Garrett a call tomorrow and see if maybe I can shed some light on this turbo setup and a potential brand new part that nobody knows about yet!
