For some my 98's and my 97's OHC map lights are different. My 98's lens just pry's off, whereas my 97 you have to twist the lens and the whole housing comes out.

My '99 Burb has the twist out type with the torx looking thing in the middle, but they look like the pry out type on the edges. And it is a damn close fit between the LED bulb and the housing hole. But the difference in light output is insane.

Ok. So I forgot to take the picture last night (typical me :33:)

Took them tonight. Here we are!

First pic is with only one map light
Second pic is with all four map lights
Third pic is with all four map lights, pluas dome and courtesy lights, all the same series of Sylvania LED bulbs

Well it was already last week, but I figured it out. After disassembling the whole lamp :Big Laugh: boy did I feel stupid after that, didn't even think about pushing and twisting the housing, but yea, that's how they work on the OHC map lights I have

Hey, I got a question for y'all! What is this grey clip thingy, what is the function of it? Can't think of anything really because it pivots inwards, so it can't hold papers or anything...

I think that's for a garage door opener; when it's in place and the panel is closed, you push the lighter gray "button" and the opener activates. Least I think that's how it works--never had a garage door opener to try it with!

That would give meaning to those mounting holes on both sides... I wonder what all sorts of things I could wire up to it... :evillol:

If you remove that garage door opener door, (Yes. That's actually what it's for!) a lens from an S-10 overhead light snaps right into that opening.
The tabs on the lens actually match up & snap into pre-existing holes in the console.
The fit is slightly loose, but a needle or pliers heated up can be used to slightly melt/bend the tabs on the lens from the backside of the console when the lens is installed, to get it to fit just that much better.
Operative word is 'slightly'!
Don't bend the tabs so much so that if you ever have to replace the bulb, the console has to be removed in order to get the lens off.
Throw in an LED festoon bulb or two. Wire it up into the dash light rheostat as the original O/H light is.

...or...
Go BIG & r-e-a-l-l-y bright!
There's room for 2 or 3 of these, depending on what size you get.

Pretty high-tech with the little Lego blocks...
