I always get confused when it comes to Surburbans and Tahoes, how do you tell the difference?
And I thought Burbs were GMC and Hoe's were Chevys..
Someone learn me plox
When did the OBS Burb go from the OOBS to the OBS, was it in 88 like the trucks? Or 91 like the blazer?
2000 or so IIRC.
The quick way to tell is to look at the rear passenger doors. On a Suburban, the doors are squared at the bottom and go all the way to the rockers all the way across...

On a Tahoe/Yukon, the rear wheel openings cut into the door opening...

The worst part about that setup on the Tahoe/Yukon is that the reshaping of the rear doors interferes with the operation of the windows. On a Suburban (or crew cab pick-up), the rear windows will roll all the way down. On a Tahoe/Yukon, the rear windows will roll down maybe 5-6", which is next to worthless. It may not look as good, but from a functionality standpoint, they really should have designed in some 6" wide quarter windows on the rear end of the window opening to allow for those windows to roll down farther.
From the side, another difference to notice is that the Suburban is longer behind the rear wheels than the Tahoe/Yukon.
There is no difference at all from the front. From the rear, just hope that the truck still has its badging, because aside from that, there is again no difference in the body. Both Suburbans and Tahoes/Yukons could be had with the barn doors or the tailgate/hatch.
If you're really paying attention you might look below the rear bumper (assuming there's not hitch receiver to hide your view) to see whether you can spot the fuel tank on the Suburban or the spare tire on the Tahoe/Yukon. The Suburban carries the spare tire inside the cargo area standing up on the left side and have a 42-gallon fuel tank behind the rear bumper. The Tahoes/Yukons carry the spare in the typical pick-up location behind the rear bumper with the fuel tank also in the pick-up location inside the driver's side frame rail.
The 4-door Tahoe/Yukon didn't appear until '95, while the GMT-400 Suburban began in '92. The Tahoe/Yukon only had rear a/c as an option for the '98 and '99 model years, while Suburbans had it for the entire '92-'99 model run. Suburbans had 3 rows of seating while the Tahoe/Yukon never had that option on the GMT-400 models.
That's exactly what I was looking for, side by side comparison. Thanks a lot man.
The Z71 Tahoe is one of my favorite GMT of all time, I remember my dad looking at one in 04 but he couldnt find one with a black interior. I loved that truck.
