I have 1989, changed the brakes to a 2005 suburban as I have two sets of new rubber I didn't want to go larger than the 16in rim. Did away with the rear anti lock years ago and am running hydro boost- finally excellent braking with oe rear discs and parking brake.

It is an evolution. The valving was based on contemporary rack and pinion style setups. The Saginaw is an early 60's design. The Delphi has much better feel.
Sourcing a used box. Assuming the case is dry- what kind of max mileage should I be looking at for a decent service life?

I have a spare I rebuilt that had about 150k on it, and the internals looked good. Try and find one that isn't leaking and it will probably be fine.

OK another fitment question on steering box, up to 2005 still has 32 spline output 2006+ has 33 spline. I know the three bolt input cover box will fit from a 1500, looking for a Z71 box which is heavier and has a 4 bolt input cover- is the 2500 box any different as in ratio or fit?

06-07 would probably work as the pitman arm geometry is the same, you'd just use the correct arm for your box. As far as the 2500 goes I have no idea what they use. I know the GMT900 switched to a R&P setup on the 1500 and the 2500 is a gearbox, but I don't know if it is the same.

I was wanting to use the gmt400 arm as it is new- I did switch out to the newer brake system which required knuckle replacement- where the ball joint stud cones had to be reamed....which makes me wonder about the compatibility of the new joint stud to center link fit.

Been having a very hard time finding a trust worthy source of a 00-05 Yukon/Tahoe 4x4 Z71 box with the four bolt cover. If you see a promising candidate out there and the guy is willing to ship, can you pass me the contact info- would be appreciated. Would also be interested in the matching pump and hydro/master setup- I have a cobbled together system that works...kinda.
