In my 97 extended cab, I have a pioneer head unit single din with blue tooth. I think it is 50 whats per channel x 4. In the doors I have pioneer replacements, 3 ways. and in the rear, I have pioneer replacements 3 ways. I also have 1 - 10 Sony xplod in a custom box that fits under the back seat. this is only on one side because there is only 1 - 10. I have a pioneer 780 what amp that is bridged to push that 10 sub. I am almost 57 years old. I am not interested in a boom system. Like you I wanted good crisp clear sound, and that is what I have. With out a sub and a amp to push it, you will be missing all the bottom end of the music. The bass will sound empty. Little full range speakers are not capable of putting out good bass. In my wide;s Toyota 4 Runner, I have close to the same set up, but the doors have 6x9 -3 ways, and 6 inch ovals in the rear door's. Same Sony 10, but only a 300 what amp pushing that 10. The amp is to small. It is hard to hear the 10. IMO it is better to go with an amp that is a little to big, than one that is a little to small. You can always turn down the volume on a big amp, but a little amp, will only go up so much. I also installed a system in my daughters 2008 Dodge 4 door. We put a 900 what amp and 1 12 sub in a center consul box that I built. We first put a Pioneer 12. The amp was getting hot, and it sounded like crap. We took it back and got a Sony xplod 12. The difference was night and day. The 12 does push a lot more bass than to 10. Her truck does thump. There is better speakers that pioneer and Sony out there for sure. But for what you are looking for, a set up like I have in my 97 is all you would need IMO. The only thing I may up grade is to put 6x9 in the doors, but this will take some cutting out of the door metal. I may do mine in the future, but as for now, no.
