solid axle swap

Okay I'm sure that this has been gone over before but I'm looking for input on this trying to decide if I should convert my truck to solid axle 4x4 or just buy a older solid axle truck. I pretty much know what parts I'll need but don't know what the cost will be I.e cost of used axel + rebuild etc....

personally if it was me and I had a c2500 from 1988 I would rather buy a truck with a solid axle then convert any c2500 pre 1996....thats just me. I dont think the cost would be worth the modification.
