95 RCSB 5.7 TBI 4l60E w/ 3.73 gears
So after much needed engine clean up, intake gasket, oil pan gasket, complete rebuild of TBI unit, injectors cleaned and flow matched, new EGR, water pump, upper/lower rad hoses, new radiator, all new A/C components, fuel filter, new heater core, I was able to take her on a 2hr highway run to drop my friends tranny off. She ran awesome!! Obtained truck with 114k on it, completed above work w/ 114,500, now have 115,386K on her...
So my question is or comment, please see photo of cluster, would those numbers concerning engine RPM's with MPH seem correct? The reason for asking is would or could a set of different rear end gears drop engine RPM's as to gain better MPG's?! My over all MPG was 13.3765, I did not have the A/C on as the weather did not call for it, I used the cruise control durning the highway portion of the trip. I had around 12 miles of in town driving of stop and go speeds with avg. speed limits of 35mph.
I was expecting at least 17mpg!? Expectations too high!? I can't believe at 115k on her that she's tried?
Still has stock exhaust manifolds, no mods to TB unit, factory Y pipe going into a single 3"" pipe into cat, about 10" of 3" straight pipe into the new Borla muffler and exiting out passenger side between front of bed and front of rear tire.
I do some highway driving down to Vegas from time to time, 2hr road trip, mom lives there now, dad past 3yrs ago, I do some house maintenance for her, and I have a couple of friends there as well, and they have some pretty cool car shows. Looking to see if I can improve my mpg's.
