That’s not 100% correct, IIRC 98-up all had the 2 piece trans, meaning can unbolt the bell from trans. This is one of the reasons they say 98-2000 is only trans that will work…..

My '00 Yukon Denali is 1 piece, has the bolt on torque converter cover with the stiffener rods to the motor mounts. Same for my buddies '98 Tahoe, co-workers '99 Tahoe 2wd (w/o the stiffener rods)
Different for my wife's old '99 Jimmy.
From what I've read, the LS engines were also equipped with 2 piece case trannys as well...

I've never seen a 400 with a 2 piece. Show me some pics?

I could be wrong, but remember when I was looking for a trans for my 96. Only 3 years to get, not alot of choices. I could have been looking at a 2000 trans for the GMT800, which would be the 2 piece. It's been years so prolly wrong lol!!! My mistake!

So this is what I'm working with. Can I still use that plate, just not using the other 2 holes. Need to finish pulling it today and see where I'm at I guess. The whole bellhousing thing has me questioning it all I suppose.

The old one has the bellhousing go all the way around and so did most gmt400s at the salvage.

Ok it looks to me like I need this piece, but with only 4 holes on the transmission side. Does Adv Adapters make one? Their site is tough to search and sometimes their descriptions don't fill me with confidence. If any body knows the part number that would be awesome. Hopefully they respond to my email this week.

So it looks like it's the wrong trans for your year. :3811797817_8d685371

I just remembered something I read a while back, searching on HMVEE trans, another story. Read the paragraph that starts with " the key distinction...."

I've got the proper transfer case adapter for the new old style transmission coming thru Evil Bay. I hope this resolves this issue for me. I'll find out next weekend, when I have time for it. Providing the part arrives
