Noise coming from my diff..

can anyone tell me what this piece on my rear diff is? it looks like a dust shield for that input seal. Ive noticed a squeak/rattle lately and figured i had a u joint about to go on me but when i moved the drive shaft the noise was coming from that collar. its loose and i can grab it with my hand and wiggle it around.

for some reason i cant see any of the options on the forum now even on my phone theyre all white.
