Hitting a starter is always a bad idea. Sometimes you have to do it out of necessity but you never want to make a habit out of it. If it was just a little stuck that could have been remedied by hitting it with PB Blaster now the magnets are probably cracked. You might want to go ahead and get a new one.

It's really easy. Two bolts and two wires. I think its 5/8, can't remember. Pay attention to the shims that will fall out when you remove the old starter. They need to go back.
