With my C2500/C3500 i've been going for the stock K2500 look with the OE style fender flares, i sure would want a 8 lug K2500/K3500.
Not a dually, too many tires and the K2500's turn way sharper than the K3500's.
I would have to say i would probably look for a
K2500 CCSB 5.7 Any color.. besides red i've had too many red GMT400's.
K2500 RCLB 5.7 Any color.. again besides red, too many red GMT400's.
2500HD RCLB 6.6 Duramax White
2500HD ECSB 6.0 White
2500HD CCSB 6.0 White/Red
Basically with these i'd prolly be looking for a price range from $5-10k..
I wouldn't really want to have to make a car payment...
One of these probably... i think i could find a 6.0 CCSB for about $7-9k with around 150k.
I would make this color matched red like the banks sidewinder trucks.

I would mod the 6.0 CCSB like this, #stormtrooper.

And if it came down to another 400, it would be a stock 8 lugger with PY0's. I wouldnt mind a two tone ether, classier.

I really wouldn't want another Extended cab but if the price was right i'd take it.

Now why not a 454, or a 6.5. I have both, and the 454 has tons of power, and the 6.5 decent power and a good little cheap diesel. But the 6.5 has to be babied, and they're lots of work. If you don't take care of it, they won't last. With that said if you do routine maintenance, and don't over-rev them, they're good economical diesels that will get you close to 20mpg. With towing, they're right in the middle of the pack IMO, better than the 350, but slightly underpowered compared to the Vortec BBC. The 454 is a good strong motor, great for towing, but i hate getting 10 mpg.. I will use my truck to work and pull every now and then but it is the daily, so it sees lots of highway miles, and with the 454 its just a waste of a good tow rig to drive it daily.
IMO the best motor for the GMT400 class is the Vortec 5700 series w/ 4L80E transmission, and 3:73 rear gears with stock wheels/tires. If i was to jump into a GMT800, the duramax is a beast, no doubt about it. They're also very expensive motors. I'm cheap, i'd rather not have a car payment and drive a 6.0, i think they're competitive with the Vortec 7.4 in the power dept. IThe only downfall is their poor MPG. For a 360 cubic inch motor you'd think they'd get a lil better MPG. Don't get me wrong if i could find a duramax for a good price i would. Just not too sure on if i'd be okay with a regular cab after owning a crew/extended cab.
