The clip is on the end of the shaft inside the cage of bearings.Get your hammer and hit the flat part of the cage toward the end of the shaft.The clip is what holds the cage on,you can't see it.

i am hitting this part correct? and i would be hitting down towards to the nut to try and get it off

or am i supposed to be hitting somewhere on the outside?

OK,got both apart.I had forgotten the cliis accessable from the top of the cage.,check to see if yours has this clip...

if so get your snap ring pliers and give it a squeeze.....mine hub came off easily.
