I did a lot of searching on the internet before trying this, and I found very little, so I thought I would share. This is the 4'x8' folding utility trailer from Harbor Freight with the 12"wheels. I put a plywood deck on it when I first got it, and I built a frame on top of that from 2"x12" lumber using the stake pockets. This thing bounces all over the road when it is empty, but it towed just fine when loaded. I towed it about an hour each way through DC traffic with no problems.

This is some awesome info, thanks! I'll be on the lookout soon for a clean stepside box so using this method to haul it will be really helpful. Do you think a similar 2x12 frame would he high enough for a 400 box to sit on and clear the ground?

How about 2 beds on a 4x8 :D

The longbed on bottom had been sat on the ground bowing the lowers slightly, so I knew I had some minor work to do to it already:

I assume a stepside box is the same height off the ground, but I don't know.
