As a member of the Tahoe/Yukon Forum-ran by Shaggy too, that has almost twice as many members as this forum, I see a plethora of new members here every day. Every time I turn around, I am seeing new members here introducing themselves and responding to posts/threads. I joined because of my girl's 1990 K2500. Both forums are fun and busy. My girl used to think I spent too much time on the TY Forum but she does not complain when I am on here or at GMTNation for her 2002 TrailBlazer. So I can't wait to tell her that it seems that now it is "all about her". Then I duck because she is from Texas and has a punch that leaves bruises.
Yup we Texas women know how to hit LoL!

As some others have also expressed, I've been using the internet for about 30 years now. I was very active on forums in the early days

Ah yes, I fondly remember the "newsgroups" of the early 90s (late 80s?) when the "Internet" was only accessible by a limited number of people, often those in academia and larger corporations.

Yeah, the Internet was supposedly "born" in 1983 but then only a few had access.

the modern internet seems so much more toxic

Ain't it the truth.

During its incarnation the Internet facilitated collaboration.

Today it seems like a vehicle for divisiveness.

This site is (most days) the way I start my day off...with a cup of coffee and plenty of stuff to read. My morning routine would be in shambles if the place ceased to exist.
Same here in the morning, and once I get home too. Just got home from work, and pretty much every day I'm on here and gmsb.com at least once. Part of it is checking on sale threads and PM's, but mostly it's for the good people who love old GM trucks like I do.

Oh I sort of forgot about Usenet. I did read one group regularly for quite awhile. It was a computer group. There was a car group that I posted to that got me invited to a Toyota Supra mailing list. It eventually became Google Groups, but it was really already over by that time. Edit: Supposedly there are independent servers still up, but usage must be minuscule by now.

I never really thought about it, but social media taking people away from Forums makes sense, I guess. There's been a number of times when I go looking for a forum covering some vehicle. Sometimes I find only stagnate forums. When I started forums were the new modern thing. I started with mailing lists. Email to a server, that sends it on to all list members. I haven't been on a mailing list, like that, for quite some time.

I'm a bit suprised the Tahoe/Yukon forum is bigger, but I guess it covers all the years (I assume) so there's that difference.
I have found that my 2005 Tahoe Z71, my girl's 2002 TrailBlazer and her 1990 K2500 can all be handled at TYF, but, I like to specialize the forums for info instead of dealing with generalities that would take place at TYF. TYF and GMT400 are my favs and the GMTNation, for the TrailBlazer, has very knowledgeable people there. When I bought the TB, I was told by a member at TYF about the GMTNation Forum and there I found that the members bet that the first thing I would need to do is a water pump. Sure enough, when I did my home inspection, before the TB purchase, I found a leaking water pump. I negotiated that in with the selling price. The pics I took helped quite a bit.

I have been in shops for a lot of years and know quite a bit and learned more at each of the 3 forums. I have owned a couple of GMT400's. There are some specialists here that are way more knowledgeable than I am and I learned a long time ago to search for the correct info. I was out of the shops for about 9 years but stayed wrenching on the side and now that I am retired, I wrench even more. I started out with shop manuals and now get info at forums like this and software systems I sign up for. All Data is a great source.

Every single social media from Facebook to YouTube to google is controlled 100% by the elites who run the world. Forums like this are one of the only places left for free speech.
this is sad but it is also 100% true and I agree with it I wish it was not true

now going back to the positive I try to get on every day and usually stay signed in all day even when I am not on my computer I love it here

When I say something and she asks me to repeat that, I know that I am on the edge and close to being put in my place. She is a retired flight attendant, after 40+ years, that knows how to deal with people and she told me that with me being 6'4" tall and walking around at 275-280 lbs. and her being 5'6" tall and 130 lbs., the best way to get my attention is to speak out so I know she means it and to let me "have it", if better attention is needed. It's ok. It works for us. I can say this though, she never ever gets mad. She doesn't need to. Plus, she will never ever curse.
