I installed dual batteries in my off-road rig.I used a continous duty(100%) solenoid sold at the local Big Rig shop made by Coe-Hersey.It was installed on Peterbilts,Freightliners, etc.Cost less than $30 and was instock. It allows 1 battery to be dedicated for starting only ,and the other 1 for the winch, lights, radio, etc.I can also boost myself.

Does it keep the aux batt charged some how?

I like this, I have 2 very good batteries wired in paralell with a manual disconnect on the aux batt, I used to leave it disconnected most of the time for boosting myself but now I leave it connected and have never had an issue of low charge, And i can very easily boost any of our equipment with it (the 12v stuff anyways). plus 1700cca just rocks in the winter
