99 GMC SIERRA with old body style

All right guys I have a question is my 99 old body style computer the same as a 98 just ordered the newer school ecm swap and not finding the right threads for this this. I'm a total newbie and wondering all my options, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Was also wondering if 4L80 is a option, Imean I know anything is possible, but don't want to brake the bank. Also repining ecm from ls to L31 to work with my ride BUT!!!! what are my options if I want to actually put a Ls engine in in the future
