Back in 2003 I was looking to replace my very worn out 1985 Scottsdale and really wanted a late 90s Vortec truck.
The prices for what I was looking for, back then, were all in the $8- $10 range.
I bought mine for $3500.
The worst part was it needed a new frame.
I bought a new frame from GM for $1200, straight from a warehouse in Michigan.

Here is the 85, it has 225K on it and was WELL used and abused.

How fitting is this, hauling its own frame off to the scape yard!

Total cash spent, $5500. That includes the cost of the truck, the new frame, paint, and assorted small parts.
This amounted to be roughly half the going price back in 2003. Granted, my time spend was worth something, but it was no dollars going out, either. It was a labor of love, to have the truck I had always wanted.
