I have a 92 Sierra 1500 5.7 4x4 and was just wondering if some
92's had 700's and some had 4l60e? I did change the trans fluid and filter and noticed it had shift solenoids and wiring so I assumed it was a 4l60e? Anybody know for sure? Thanks. I would also like to add a torque converter lockup kit for towing.

Both have electronics inside. Your '92 though has a 700R4 with a new name - 4L60 (no "E"). It's controlled mostly by a cable from your TBI unit. The 4L60E came out for '93 models and has a fat round electrical plug on the passenger side, and no cable off the throttle body. 700R4/4L60 has wiring for the torque converter clutch, speed sensor (2WD) etc.

Excellent info, that's exactly what I was looking for, thanks. It seems to work great and although I tow with it I just leave it in 3rd gear. I also put a trans gauge in to make sure it doesn't get too hot. Hope it lasts for a while!

Pressure test port location rocks. Have it set this way on my current truck's 4L60E, also did it on my old wrecker's 4L80E. The AutoMeter gauge I used comes with a sender that fits right in there with no adapter needed.

I have a 700r4 in my 90 c2500 in park i have a loud noise from trans. In gear cold i gotta get to 40 or 50 mph to shift to second and never hit third. Is it done or just a sensor?

Tranny shop is best on these

But when shifting in and out of park?
Or does it make noise while your in park?

How's the fluid?

How's the filter?

Mileage?

.... I'd buy another one or go manual trans !!!
