Hey, I have 1994 gmc sierra k1500 with a 4l60e. My question is can I replace the 4l60e 4x4 with 700r4 as if it was a replacement as far as transfer case, length and cross member go. I am aware of the the wiring harness tv cable and tc lockup. I just can't find a clear answer. I can get 700r4 for cheaper then I can get 4l60e at the moment and tranny is blown. Thanks

They are the same size. If you have a 1 piece 4l60e it will work. The 4l60e with removable bellhousings use 6 bolts flange tails and one piece 4l60e use 4 bolts. Also the speedometer is cable driven on the 7004r and electonic on the 4l60e. Some later 7004r were called 4l60 without the "e"

No, my 88 has the VSS sensor. I think all 88 and up 700R4s had the VSS. Yes, GM standardized the nomenclature 4L60 means "4" speed, "L"ongitudinal orientation, "60"00 Lb vehicle but, internally they were pretty much the same.

I have a similar, but more complex issue. I have a 94 C1500 2WD that I swapped out the 4.3 to a 383 stroker Gen 1 engine. I purchased the Holley Terminator X Max with transmission controller. unbeknownst to me, the controller will not work with the original 94 4l60e transmission. I am being told that the 99-05 4l60e will be controlled by the Terminator, however it will not bolt up to the Gen 1 engine. So my question is, is there anything that can be done? Can I just buy a TH700r4 and make it work on this truck? Im so lost please help. Thanks

Yes, but a 700R4 is definitely a step backwards. I'd swap up to a 4L80. Your 383 is pushing the limits of a 700R4/4L60e, even if you drive it nice.

I purchased the Holley Terminator X Max with transmission controller. unbeknownst to me, the controller will not work with the original 94 4l60e transmission. I am being told that the 99-05 4l60e... will not bolt up to the Gen 1 engine.

That's good stuff to know. I'm no expert on SBC to LS compatibility, but there's a lot of disinformation out there. A buddy of mine swapped a 6L80 into his truck, and he was expecting machine work and adapters because of what "the internet" said. Then he discovered it's pretty much a bolt-in.

I have a question. I have a 97 k1500 that was swapped with a Holley sniper system and a 700r4, it is 4wd hunts the k1500. Do you know what all I would need hooked up for the gauge cluster and what not to work? Thanks! Any help would be appreciated
