    I'm getting ready to install a mechanical water temp gauge on my son's 89 C1500 5.7L. My question is can this be done without messing up the TBI? What all has to be done to do this? I'm worried about the computer reading cold the hole time & the motor running rich.

    That is correct. That is why I wonder if it's the gauge. I thought I had heard or read one time those gauges were known for having issues.

    Thanks for all the advise here guys. This past weekend I put new semi metallic brake pads on the front & new shoes along with wheel cylinders on the rear. Truck stops great! Don't understand all this talk about these trucks having crappy brakes?
