I'm getting ready to install a mechanical water temp gauge on my son's 89 C1500 5.7L.

My question is can this be done without messing up the TBI?

What all has to be done to do this?

I'm worried about the computer reading cold the hole time & the motor running rich.

Replace the sender in the drivers side head with your mechanical one. The one by the thermostat is for the computer.
