So I have had this problem that seems to have gotten a little worse where my steering is too tight meaning that when I let go of the wheel it does not return to center. I can be going around a curve and let go and the steering stays in the same place where it normally should jerk back to center. This is really annoying on straight roads because to keep it going straight I am always adjusting it left and right. Is there anything that might cause this? I got a new hydroboost, steering pump, and steering gear box last summer. The last week or so I have noticed it has gotten worse.

Thanks!

Bryce

Sticking ball joints, tie rods, pitman arm and idler arm can all cause it. When was the last time that you greased the truck?

That big adjusting nut on the gearbox where the steering shaft goes in is probably set too tight. When I was playing with mine last year I did that and it was down right terrifying to drive.

I did that with an old 89 C1500, it had 239k and the steering had slop, no way right?!? I tried tightening the nut as a quick fix to help, but found that if you overtighten it too much, it starts to bind, like you can feel the gears in the gearbox grinding against eachother.

Thanks for all the replies. I greased the truck at the last oil change. I didn't necessarily see that it was this tight when it was done. I think it was a little too tight then but seems tighter now. An alignment was done at the time too. It's still drives straight down the road so I think the alignment is still good

Is there any steering stabilizer/steering shock on the truck?

And what brand steering gear box did you put on? It could be a bad gear box. It sounds like somethings binding or the alignment possibly.
