UPDATE: COSTCO HAS INTERSTATE BATTERIES FOR CHEAP. SIZE 78 WITH 800CCA AND 1000CA FOR $85! So, if you need a battery for your truck and you've been on the fence about whether or not to get a Costco memership, do it! Or if you're in the SF Bay Area message me and we go can buy you a battery...

Trying to find a battery for as little money as possible for my 98 Silverado. These are the ones I found real quick:

Walmart - Everstart Maxx - Size 78, 800CCA, 5yr Warranty - $110
O'Reilly - Superstart Premium - Siz 78, 700CCA, 2yr Warranty - $122
O'Reilly - Superstart Extreme - Size 78, 800CCA, 3yr Warranty - $131
Autozone - Duralast - Size 78, 700CCA, 2yr Warranty - $122
Autozone - Duralast Gold - Size 78, 800CCA, 5yr Warranty - $143
NAPA - Legend 75 - Size 78, 700CCA, 75 Months Warranty - $118
Costco - Interstate - ???

The Walmart battery is the cheapest but I don't know how good their batteries are. I had a Superstart Premium in a previous vehicle with no problems, and it's the second cheapest. It seems like the Autozone options are not good. I know nothing about NAPA batteries. The Costco battery is probably going to be the best of them all but a bit more expensive. Thoughts or any other one I have not considered?

I used a walmart battery in a winter beater for a few years. No problems till it was 3 years old. I have a NAPA Legend in my truck now, about 6 years old and still tests good. I have a Advance Auto silver battery in both the hot rods, they have been fine for the last 3 or 4 years.

I usually run the wally world batteries. Never had a real issue with them. I even drove an hour and a half at night on just the battery in my 85 C10 back in the day. The alternator belt busted at about 11pm in the middle of nowhere. Got where I needed to get to, running the headlights, and it still had enough juice to start it up the next morning to get me to the parts store. I think that battery was 2 years old at the time and it was in the truck when I sold it 2 years later.

Alright I guess it's either going to be the Walmart Everstart Maxx or the Costco Interstate (depending on how much it costs). The NAPA is probably a high quality battery it just has less CCA which I don't like.

Keep in mind that most of those warranties are pro-rated garbage, not free replacement.

Personally, I wouldn't buy any of those. To each their own, though.

Order a battery online at Advance Auto, use one of there lucrative coupon codes and go pick it up at the store. By far the cheapest way I've gotten batteries.

What do you suggest, then?

Well, you asked for cheap so you're probably not going to like my answer. I run Odysseys in all of my vehicles. Used to run Optima yellow tops, until a brand new one died on me. After that happened I did some research and learned that Optima sold to Johnson Controls and are now made in Mexico, apparently their quality has gone downhill since then. The Odysseys are pricey, but they have a four year free replacement warranty, no questions asked. Plus you can get them with both top and side terminals, and they've got more reserve capacity and cranking amps than anything else on the market. Made by Enersys right here in the good ol' USA. Here's the one I run in both of my trucks.

Alternatively, if you don't have an Odyssey dealer nearby, Sears sells the Die-Hard Platinum line which are (or at least were) re-badged Enersys batteries. Essentially an Odyssey for a little bit cheaper with a different label. Same exact specs.

I run a very large draw stereo system in my red truck (and honestly, too small of an alternator) and the Odyssey keeps up just fine. When I switched to them from Optima I noticed considerably less voltage drop while running my stereo at high volume, and much easier cold weather starts in the winter. Worth every cent in my opinion.
