Well, I think it's about time I started a build thread. I've been a member for a little over a year and my truck has gone through a few changes.
When I got the truck it was bone stock. 1997 GMC Sierra 1500 Z-71, push button, 350 auto. Original everything. The guy who had it was the 2nd owner. His dad owned it from new, and when he died the truck was given to his son. He kept it for a year or so and decided to trade it in on a Yukon. I found the truck while I was in Afghanistan on Auto Trader and sent my dad down from Illinois to Tennessee to look at it. The body was in pretty good condition. The frame didn't have any major rust, although there is some mild surface rust that can be easily wire wheeled off and painted. The paint was kept up fairly well. The seats and interior were great overall.
The exterior (cosmetically speaking) is about 80% done. There are a few other things I want to do, but for now I'm happy with it. Interior wise I want to replace a few things, mainly the headliner and carpet. They aren't bad, but I'm picky. So, here's what I've done so far and how the truck looked when I got it, vs. how it looks to date.
What I've done:
- Full paint front to back
- Exterior door handles
- Exterior mirrors
- Dick Cepek DCII wheels (17x9, 4.5" BS)
- Stock fender flares (plasti dipped for now)
- Color matched bumpers
- Pro Comp 100w halogen driving/flood lights
- TYC Elegante headlights
- Anzo parking lights
- Sonar euro amber corner lights
- Comp/temp mirror
What I want to do:
- 4 hi mod
- BIG 3
- Machine new bezel for factory fog light switch (to run Pro Comp lights)
- Lift????
- New rubber (after I decide if/when I want to lift)
- Exhaust w/ magnaflow DI/DO muffler
- Headliner
- Carpet
- Stereo w/ sub built into center console
- Engine swap at some point
Any comments or opinions are welcome!
