What are the Advantages and Disadvantages in your guys opinion? Right now my pipes exiting out the back are rusting off and are not symmetrical. I'd rather not mess with it, so i was thinking about putting on turn downs until i can redo my whole exhaust this summer. I have to have my Cats on do to Ohio Emissions will that effect it?

This is what im dealing with and it looks awful IMO, so i just wanna see if turn downs are the way to go until summer

I think turndowns look better. IMO there is no good place for exhaust to exit our trucks. I'm considering side exit just in front of the rear tire, but even that is questionable. I'd say throw a pair of turndowns on it and leave it for good. Be way cheaper and look better too. I don't think it should affect emissions testing but I've never done it so I can't say for sure.

I think turndowns will look best...nice and clean. If you do go with turndowns, you dont even have to buy the pipe, just cut your pipes off with a sawzall after it comes over the axle. Should be a little less drone than turndows right after the muffler, plus its cheap and easy.

Benefits are purely cosmetic and audible. Disadvantages are audible, as well they can be dangerous. I do not recommend cutting them off after the axle if you use your truck for hauling OR have a bed cover. It is an absolute no-no if you carry people or pets. My preference is to dump them at the bumper. Take a look at an older Dodge Durango, that is my favorite style. It is visible, but barely, from behind. It doesn't cause an exhaust build up under the truck or in the bed either. You still get the echo, but not as pronounced in the cab and that means less irritating. I never recommend side exit exit exhaust in front of the rear wheel. Not only does it coat your wheels in exhaust soot it can potentially be a disaster if your truck loses a valve seal or starts missing. It is loses a seal and starts dumping oil then your tires will coat. If you have a consistent misfire the fuel will start deteriorating the rubber. To avoid all of that you can just use an O-pipe.

I agree with Tempted that dumping it right behind the bumper is the best option, but that would require a little more fabrication

Not that I like them either but if It's really that bad, then why did Ford put them that way on the pickups?

He means run your pipes all the way back to your bumper but instead of them exiting out the back have the pipes hidden underneath and also put on turndown tips, that way you wont be able to see your exhaust, just hear it ;)

I vote dumped behind the bumper. Looks way cleaner not being able to see tips/pipes sticking out imo. Mines dumped behind my roll pan on my 92 and will be dumped soon on my 95 cuz my tips are beat up!
