driveshaft swap

When did gm start with the aluminum driveshafts? My 88 has a steel one want to swap.

I have only seen the aluminum ones on ecsb 94+ pickups. Not sure when they actually started with them or what body type either

My 92 ext cab had the alum driveshaft, now my 98 ext cab is back to steel. 92 rcsb is steel

What would be the benefit of that swap?

It all might depend on what configuration you have. Engine, transmission, tonnage, diff size, bed and cab length, etc.
