The transmission seems to shift well and looks to be in good condition, far from new but ya know... would a transmission be a priority to go along with either motor?

I just bought a 96 Tahoe and I really enjoy the truck. It would seem that at 238xxx the heads are getting a bit leaky. I wonder if it would be better to have the engine worked over and gaskets replaced or if it would be more beneficial to just swap out motors? I wanted to consider options for a...
