    Off Road Question

What 351FUN said. In my opinion, the IFS on these trucks is their weak point off road. I took mine on a "moderate" trail ONCE, and almost didn't get it out of there. When attempting to climb a rock ledge, I got some wheel hop and my tie rods pretzeled up. After straightening it to the best of my...

1990 Chevy Cheyenne - "Fire Ball"

Got a coat of paint on her today. I liked the patina look, but I figured this truck deserved a partial restoration for as good of shape as the body and motor are in. Went with a single stage "Candy Apple Red", but it ended up being more orange like a Lava Red. Now I gotta get some decals and...

1990 Chevy Cheyenne - "Fire Ball"

For my reference more than anything - The Wix Oil Filter number needed for the 2wd oil filter conversion is 57099. The oil filter adapter is KIPA 3952301 or a Melling MFA350 Gonna treat her to an oil change next week.

1990 Chevy Cheyenne - "Fire Ball"

Thanks y'all! That's my buddies truck. It is an Aries brush guard. Pretty nice unit, although a bit of a PITA to put on. I believe he got it off RockAuto.com.

    IFS offroad durability

Personally I think a solid axle is better for any serious off-road use. They hold up to abuse much better. Also, you can get more suspension travel out of a solid axle. The IFS weak point in my experience is the tie rod / ends. Too much wheel hop when climbing rocks and they will bend or even...

leveling kit and adding down travel

What was the outcome? Thinking through this same topic on my Cheyenne. My main issue with the RC leveling kits is they decrease turning radius IME. I always theorized that extended control arms would solve this problem but never confirmed.

    The Body Lift Thread

This may have already been covered, but can you do a body lift on a truck with a manual trans and floor shift transfer case? Seems like it would throw the shifter alignment off...

    Needing some paint advice

A 20 Gallon Campbell Hausfeld. 5.5 CFM @ 90 PSI That is where the LVLP gun comes into play. "Low Volume / Low Pressure" allows you to use a smaller compressor, but will disperse less paint. Edit - This makes it preferable to do one panel at a time as it will be harder to paint the whole...

    Needing some paint advice

I painted my mud truck in my driveway for -$300 and it came out pretty dern good if I do say so myself. Paint was pretty FUBAR'd, and was more rust than anything. Knocked all of the heavy scale and loose stuff off with 80 grit and a DA. Then I came back with 150 then 220 and finally 300 grit...

    Pig Pen's 89 GMC 2wd SAS Auto to SM465

Your build is awesome! It's the perfect combination of rugged capable off-road rig, mixed with the adventurers spirit brought on with the overlanding equipment. Also I liked the fishing pics. I am a big angler myself, so it is fun to see folks who share the same hobbies. That Red Fish was a...

1990 Chevy Cheyenne - "Fire Ball"

Howdy Folks. I have been a long time Chevy owner, but this is my first GMT400. Pretty stoked to have one of the best Chevy trucks ever made. Previously I had a 82 K5 Blazer, a 2001 Suburban and a 2000 Z71. Anyways, back to the Cheyenne. I picked this up a few months ago for 3K, which I thought...

    Choosing a muffler, need help

I have always liked the Thrush line of mufflers, and have had all of their glass packs and stainless mufflers. The Thrush welded series gave my truck a nice deep rumble, but nothing obnoxious. This was without cats on my 5.3. I also had a Thrush glass pack on my 5.9 Grand Cherokee. It had cats...

    97' k1500 DD/crawler/prerunner/overland build

Interesting concepts at work here. Following for progress. Curious what you hope to achieve with the fabricated U/L control arms? Just more suspension travel over stock? I have long been a hater of IFS, but maybe I could learn a thing or two from your thread.

    350 leak

Check the oil filter adapter. The 90 degree housing on the K-series trucks are prone to bending and warping IME. I did an oil change and just from using a filter wrench managed to warp the housing. Swapped it over to a 2WD adapter with a stubby Wix filter and haven't had an issue since...

Will not come out of 4low

Second actuator. It's a fairly easy part to replace. Also check the connector coming off the wiring harness to the transfer case. I had a situation where the transfer case came unplugged while I was four wheeling and it did the exact thing you are describing. There is also a transfer case...

    1988 C1500 tbi help

Have you tested fuel pressure? It could be a restricted line, as it sounds like you have checked all of the other boxes related to the fuel management system. Another thought is this might be an ignition issue v.s. a fuel issue, as they often display the same symptoms.
