    looking for paint codes

There was a debate at the time, GM said DuPont's sealer was the problem. DuPont said GM short-cutted the process. IDK if the finger-pointing was ever settled. Anyone here know? In the town where I lived, the GM dealer set up an outdoor tent in the spring and hired a crew of guys JUST to strip...

    looking for paint codes

Light colors would peel b/c uv light can penetrate light paint easier (more than dark colors). It then creates a powdery layer on the sealer GM used at the time (and Ford too), ...which then would cause the paint to flake off. Whites, silvers, light blues, etc were the worst. GM repainted a lot...

    Cab and Bed Mount

That's really common in the upper midwest, even when frames aren't as rusty. Water (rain) gets between the cab and the box. Rusts it out. A guy can cut the frame apart and section in a new piece. They DO make a cab/box bracket. It doesnt look 100% stock, but a lot easier than making one from...

JB Weld on accessory bolt studs in aluminum heads?

Did you ever put a tap in there and clean the threaded area out well? And shoot a bunch of carb cleaner to make sure it's crystal-clean in there? JB Weld works great and I could tell you some really good personal JB Weld stories. You would be able to get those studs out if you epoxied. Just...

    GMT400 - Community Scan Tool

I think he meant 'OBD Vehicle Connector'. The scanner cartridge is 1999 ...so it's OBD2 by nature. And backward compatible with OBD1 (to 1981 vehicle's ...or '80 1/2).

Having the known GM taillight issues. Who makes the best aftermarket tailights? What are yall running?

Then I must be your 1st lieutenant! :waytogo: Plus LED bulbs at a higher cost, seem to go flaky way faster than I like.

Having the known GM taillight issues. Who makes the best aftermarket tailights? What are yall running?

The issue I was seeing on the circuit boards is tightening the circuit board too much warps it (due to the foam gasket), and leads to a connection problem, or a crack on the circuit board. It's difficult not to tighten it all the way, but go easy on the screws helped me. I have had good luck...

Are door handle gaskets available separately?

Possible. They're kind of a hard rubber or soft plastic.

    How should I repair this!

You can use just normal clear epoxy on SMC. Like the clear dual-syringe cartridges you can get at a home center. And fiberglass strand. Do the prep work, then apply your fiberglass mat, mix the epoxy and apply the epoxy over the mat. Work it in so the fiberglass get's constituted into the epoxy...

Solid rear window to sliding window

I personally love the one on my RC tk! It allows so much useful ventilation on summer days where ya don't want/need AC. For me, where we live and the way I drive, I really never need a/c (doesn't work anyway lol). I've never had any fumes come in (my exh is stock style). My other truck doesn't...

Thanks. The odd thing is they're available on aftermarket door handles...

    Slowing down rust

I didn't think vehicles in S Cal rusted like that? Is it from the midwest?

Are door handle gaskets available separately?

The rubber/plastic gaskets which surround the outside door handles on my truck ('89) are dry/brittle/aged/shrunk. The handles themselves are fine. I've cleaned and lubricated them. Really no reason to replace them. Are new gaskets available anywhere (separately) w/o buying new outer handle...

    94 GMC K1500...can't read data stream OBD1

Good work. Did you get the CEL to illuminate? It should show the location in your manual (if you have one). Or aim a strong flashlight to the cluster. Should see it. It's always possible the ECM is toast too, or the circuit board corroded (or have you inspected it?).

Interesting thread. If you DO end up modifying your fuel pump situation and add a fuel pressure regulator ...get a good quality one: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c3-general/4766529-car-caught-on-fire-fuel-regulator-malfunction.html

Advice For New Wheels For 97 Tahoe 4X4.

From the looks of it, the clear coat on your wheels would polish out real nice....and be shiny again. Assuming the wheel's clearcoat is in ok shape (not chipped or corroded off), a regular machine polisher would do (with careful use), if you have one. Or better yet, a hand buffer like THIS...

    Slowing down rust

Part II of the above is: If after you have ground out the rust and you see additional rust which extends down to the windshield pinch weld (which is probably the case), then eventually you will probably want to remove the glass, clean the pinch weld area, and sand blast or grind, etc any...

    Slowing down rust

Here's what I would do ....and in fact, I had a few windshield rust areas similar to yours, but not as bad. You can eat all that rust away and completely stop and fix the rust situation. And for now put on a protective coat on it. It's going to take a little time, but trust me, it'll eat all the...

    94 GMC K1500...can't read data stream OBD1

I agree...check for the CEL bulb. Someone definitely could have removed it. Someone removed ...actually disassembled & desoldered the LED from a newer-ish vehicle I bought once. I had to solder in a new LED and straighten out a bunch of issues (kind of like you). Yeah, on my older snap-on...

93 K1500 oil pressure drops once warm

Try to find a gauge 0-100 (vs 0-150) ...if you can, to be able to get a somewhat more accruate low range reading. Gauges are least accurate at their extreme ranges. If you have a 0-30 or 0-60, it would be even better for single-digit readings, Link Here. Make sure the air is fully bled out. I...

    Under hood tool tray mod

OP, are you going to fab up or set a regular tool box in that location? Kind of like John Deere tractors have a removable tool box that can go on the side? Anyway, great idea. Thanks for sharing. I can see how that would be real helpful place to put a tool box. :waytogo:

    1992 7.4 Oil?

I've been using Citgo Farm & Barn dinno-oil and a Delco filter in my truck since 2000 ...still working fine. 275k mi. I can get it cheaper than about any other oil when it's on sale. I think just about any oil will work ok. The Diesel oil isn't a bad idea either I suppose. Wix/Napa filters are a...

    4.3L to ?? swap.

Check plugs too. I've had new plugs go bad believe it or not. In fact, if you have the plugs out, you might do a compression test. It won't hardly cost you any extra time and possibly rule out a valve/lifter/rocker problem. It's always possible a push rod slipped off.

What to do with these $50 steel wheels?

If you look around and get new tires with recessed beads, or "Rim-protecting bead" as many call them ....like a lot of off-road tires, and quite a few street and AT truck tires have nowadays, then the end look of such a tire/wheel package with your steel wheels will *appear* wider ....w/o...
