    Decided to LS swap

Yep. I read that. I see no reason to go with anything other than stock for my build.

ARP rod bolts from Summit are $97. I’ll be getting those.

    Decided to LS swap

Machine shop is doing new cam bearings. I did not ask what brand. They do use clevite so I’ll check. He did say that he can check out the rods and if they’re good he will clean them up and install new bearings along with the pistons and rings. I’ve been looking into the oil pump thing and I’ve...

    Decided to LS swap

Aren’t the main and rod bolts tty as well and thus can’t be reused? I’m all for saving money but I’d hate to skimp on engine internals and have an expensive issue later. I’m not building a high performance engine. The only mod I’m doing is a cam. The machine shop will measure and hone the main...

    Decided to LS swap

Ok guys, I have some questions now regarding the engine build. Specifically bolts and bearings. I’d like to put this thing back together with stock GM parts. Went to the local dealer to get pricing on bolts. Here’s what he’s quoted me: Main bolts (the long ones on top of the caps, I can reuse...

Dropped everything off at the machine shop today after work. They’re gonna hot tank and shot peen the block and paint it for me. I’m going with GM Blue. Guy is also gonna Brad blast all the aluminum parts (heads, covers, etc) and it’s gonna look like new. I’m beyond excited to see this done.

    Decided to LS swap

Well guys I’m not having much luck with a 4L80 rebuildable core. I had 3 lined up from 3 different yards. First guy called and said when they pulled it the discovered the bell housing cracked. The other 2 places that said they had them when I called (I paid a deposit on each one) called me back...

Thanks for that. I’ll talk to my transmission guy about a proper converter.

    Decided to LS swap

Perfect. Thanks. I just picked up a 4L80e out of a 2003. I’ll be dropping it off at the transmission shop later this week.

    Decided to LS swap

So the 4L80 has a 4th gear ratio of .750 I used a gear calculator online and in order to run at as close to 2000rpm at 70mph I have to change the rear end gears to either a 3.42 (like you suggested) which puts me at 2088rpm~70mph or a 3.08 which will be 1878rpm~70mph. I’ll confirm this with the...

    Decided to LS swap

This is exactly why I’m here so no worries at all. I appreciate the feedback and opinions. I willl most likely pick up a 4L80 core this week. I’m not liking the way the upper rad hose is run across the front of the engine on these swaps. I’ve found some swap specific radiators that have the...

    Decided to LS swap

Just got done reading this. Thanks for linking it. I’ve reconsidered my transmission choice and I’m gonna pick up a rebuildable 4L80 from a local auto salvage yard and have it rebuilt to my needs.

    Decided to LS swap

I just got done reading the 14 page thread from a guy who did a 6L swap. I agree with you and I’ve reconsidered that. I’m gonna pick up a non working 4L80 from a local wrecking yard and have it rebuilt for my needs.

I should’ve check the calculator before posting. A 275/40-20 is pretty much the same diameter as my current wheel/tire setup. Those gears would work for either. Thanks again.

    Decided to LS swap

I talked to the transmission guy about what to look for. Like if the transmission doesn’t work how do you tell how bad it actually is. He said as long as the fluid doesn’t smell like ammonia and make your eyes water you’ll be ok. Im assuming that most of these “burnt up” HD transmissions just...

    Decided to LS swap

Thanks for that. It’s something I am going to have to consider. For now I’m just doing the engine swap. In another year I’d like to do a 4/6 drop with 20” wheels. I’m assuming I’d have to change the rear end gears again?

    Decided to LS swap

Doing tons of research here. So I’ve managed to locate a couple of 4L80e “rebuildable” cores within a 1 hour drive of my location. They range anywhere from $300-750. A couple of them listed say “no first gear” no price but to call. I’m thinking this might be the better route considering the...
