    '97 L29 ---Annoying Idle

For what it's worth ---This is my first experience with a L29. So part of my problem was not having a reference point for what a "perfectly running" L29 should feel like. Adding to that uncertainty is the fact the engine has 180K miles on it. But heck even with the faint miss the L29 idled much...

    '97 L29 ---Annoying Idle

I changed the plugs and wires right after buying the truck and performing a compression test. What I never suspected was that I'd force one of 045 gaps closed during the install. The engine had several other 'significant" issues that "clouded over/drowned out" this slight misfire until these...

    '97 L29 ---Annoying Idle

Tiime to fess up. Today I finally found the main problem with the rough idle/slight miss. The #7 spark plug gap was 0.00"! When I changed the plugs and wires many months ago I set the plug gaps at 0.045" but must have accidently compressed the #7's electrodes together while reinstalling that...

Setting distributor timing without $$$$ scan tool? 1999 5.7 Suburban

I recently set the CAM Retard to 0 degrees on a L29 Vortec using a Snap on Solus (which I bought two weeks ago). Prior to that I had been driving blindly for a few months with the CR at -14 degrees without a code being thrown! Amazing. Therefore the engine will run by stabbing the distributor...

    95 k2500 suburban 454 SES code 36

I recently bought a "well used" Snapon Solus Pro with Version 13.2 software on ebay for $400. Its the first SnapOn scanner I've owned so full disclosure I'm not qualified to exactly opine or provide experienced based recommendation(s) on the versions. But based on Schurkey's comment above my...

It wasn't even throwing a code at -14 degrees! But finding it that far off and setting it to 0 degrees immediately settled the engine down ---much smoother.

    95 K2500 454 Running HOT--Advice??

Was this the first long road trip after replacing the t-stat? If so the high temp might have been the result of a vapor pocket burping its way past the temp sensor and finally into the top of the radiator. If it never overheats again then that was the cause. I've had this same thing occur before...

Someone talk me out of ditching my TBI setup

I was only half kidding about how addicting the new EFI stuff becomes. I constantly interact with the Terminator X running my blown BBC 496. Driving with a cell phone in hand pales in comparison. LOL

    95 k2500 suburban 454 SES code 36

I already love it ---Apparently I've been running around with my CAM position sensor at (-14 degrees). Turned the dizzy ccw and now @ 0 degrees ---much smoother running engine! Been flying blind without a scanner.

Schurkey ---I received the Solus Pro Version 13.2 (released sometime in 2013) ---I believe this version DOES support ABS. When I enter the "ABS Service" screen, it prompts to insert the K-25 P key. Unfortunately I don't have the K25 to fully test it. I'll try to find a K25 and report out.

    Head gasket shot?

I agree ---put a head on it and rock on.

    Head gasket shot?

Cracked head and 240K miles. I'd either pull the engine for complete rebuild or slap on the cheapest head money can buy and let it roll. Immediate open heart surgery or take an aspirin and live another day.

    1988 Chevrolet K2500 78000 miles

Excellent example of a handsome truck that was king of the hill back in its day and hence your future restoration activities equal investments. Driving it on a routine basis is crucial to extending its life. Enjoy it and in the years ahead get ready for many folks asking, "Hey, you want to sell...

Someone talk me out of ditching my TBI setup

Aftermarket EFI? Don't go there! It's more addicting than ****** (first letter "h", e, r, o,i,n --stupid censors) but without any occasional easy fixes. Get a grip, drop the idea, or risk spending the rest of your waking days tuning everything out.

    L29 Replacing Fuel Injectors

For the record I completed this injector swap out job in 4.5 hours which included changing the pressure regulator. It was an easy and straight forward job. Results ---the engine feels much more responsive, has a smoother idle, and ever more importantly, I've picked up approximately 2.4 miles...

General Schurkey ---I'm following your lead and have decided to also buy a Solus Pro. I have my eye on a SP that has 11.4 version software, the battery and charging cables, the OBD plugs and cables, but does NOT include any "keys." From what I can tell there are +-30 different "personality...

    L29 Distributor Accel #59132---Tight Fit!

I've read many accounts of people believing their new distributor was incorrectly assembled by the factory and sent them back. I wonder how many of these folks tried this technique of removing the dizzy's gear, turing it 180 degrees, and putting it back on? Maybe I just got lucky but this...

    L29 Distributor Accel #59132---Tight Fit!

I've got some very good news boys! I was able to clock the rotor 1/2 tooth CCW and this rotation created a new dizzy adjustment window. So its not "how it be" on the L29 after all! Here's how I did it: 1. I took a close look at the dowel pin that secures the dizzy gear onto the input shaft...

    L29 Distributor Accel #59132---Tight Fit!

A few months ago after replacing the dizzy (with the Accel) I also bought Dash Command thinking it could clear Cam Retard code 0345. I also found out the DC software is a POS and there is zero support behind it. I was finally able to clear the code by forcing the dizzy up hard against the fuel...

    L29 Distributor Accel #59132---Tight Fit!

I installed a new Accel Distributor PN 59132 in my L29 a few months ago. It actually works BUT it sure has a very narrow and tight installation window. There's literally only 1 gear tooth that works but even this one tooth provides a marginal fit at best. Here's what I mean ----If the dizzy is...

    Censored words needing unblocked

What this is about has got nothing to do with nothing other than someone else's something that they don't want you to know anything about no matter what. Stop censoring or we'll all end up constantly expressing such nonsensical gibberish. Which is someones prime objective. Dispatch prospective...

    L29 Replacing Fuel Injectors

Check out the old injectors. Notice one of them had a torn o-ring ---maybe the cause of rough idle? Hope so :)! I wonder if these were the original injectors ('97)?
