    Well it turns out I have a burnt valve and I'm down a cylinder. I don't know what to do. I know I can't afford to have the shop fix it. I was told the spring is good but the valve is toast. Guess I'm going to start looking for a pair of tbi heads in junk yards that don't really exist around here?

    My father in law helped me check the timing with the wire you mentioned unplugged. It was spot on. I'm going to try to put some octane booster in it. What else can I check out? I'm at a loss.

    I'm in over my head. I don't have a timing light and aren't sure what you're saying. I set initial time with esc bypass wire? I appreciate the comment and help. I just put a new EGR valve on it. Seems to idle smoother.

    So turns out I unplugged the MAP vacuum hose when I replaced. Didn't secure it well enough I guess. Guess what?! my entire initial problem is back. It's spark knocking at low rpm. 1400-1600 rpm. So it doesn't spark knock with the MAP sensor unplugged. But does with it plugged in.

    Update . I just went and unplugged the MAP sensor and it didn't run good but definitely got rid of the sound. Maybe I'm mistaking valve rattle for pinging? I'm getting a new MAP tomorrow hopefully!

    If it were something with the cam shaft or valves out of spec wouldn't it do it in neutral? Could this be a spark ping? I don't know if I know what that sounds like . I've refueled lately and don't suspect low octane or bad fuel? Could this be a tbi thing? Sorry if my questions are dumb.
