    Por-15 on frame question

I did my frame with POR 15 about 3 years ago. There are some spots that are peeling off and some spots that have held up very well. Followed instructions (cleaned off all loose rust and buildup, metal prep, wax and grease remover), but still have some bad spots. If it gets on your skin (it...

Towing with 33” tires versus 35” tires

I tow a good bit with my truck on 35s, but it has been regeared to 4.56. Before the regear i had the factory 3.73s, and it was a dog compared to now. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't have wanted to tow a whole lot with it. I would definitely recommend going to 4.56 if you're going to be towing a...

    Rare paint codes

Yes my dad preferred the 1995+ mirrors. We had an extra set laying around so he painted them and put them on. The older chrome ones are in a box now haha. And you are correct. The truck is a 1988. 88-89 had the split head lights also.

    Rare paint codes

Have any of y’all ever seen a Gmt400 with this paint combo? The truck was originally bought new by my grandpa and now belongs to my dad. I have never seen another one like it anywhere.

    Value of our trucks

Just saw a 97 with almost 200k miles go for $9k in under a day on marketplace here in NC. It was super clean, but that's still seems high to me

What to do with rear end?

    1. You have to make sure the u-bolts are the right width for the brackets that go under the axle I believe. When I did mine, I did the u-bolt flip since the axle came with the flipped bracket. 2. I think I ordered my u joint from autozone or something like that 3. Mine took 4 bottles of fluid...

What to do with rear end?

I got lucky and found a $300 parts truck on Craigslist with a 14 bolt sf. If you’ve never changed gears before, it is a fairly complicated and tedious process. Me and my dad did mine and it took us a couple weeks, but we also replaced the seals, brakes and bearings and painted the axle. I put a...

    ABS Ring

Thanks for all of the replies. From what I have read the carrier split is at 2.73. 2.73 and numerically higher use the same carrier. We had considered the salvage yard option, but prefer to keep the truck close to original.

    ABS Ring

My dad recently got a 1988 C1500 in really good shape with 86,000 miles. It has the stock 2.73 ratio rear end. He is looking to swap them out for 3.42's. Looking at Motive Gear, they list 2 different sets of gears, 1 with ABS ring and 1 without. We are thinking this truck does not have the ABS...

9.5 14 bolt swap questions, beat to death I know............

I'm a little confuse as to exactly what measurement you want. If you could post a pic of measuring your axle shaft so I can see, I'll try to measure mine when I get some time.

9.5 14 bolt swap questions, beat to death I know............

I just finished a 14 bolt 9.5” swap on my truck. The backing plates off the 10 bolt won’t mount up to the 14 bolt since the axle tube diameter on the 14 bolt is larger. I payed $300 for a parts truck with no bed, engine, or interior that had a 14 bolt. The biggest problem I had was getting the...

Replacing rear window after color change

I am not sure if the slider is original or if it has been replaced. I’ve only had the truck about 2 years. Is there a way to tell what brand it is? The only markings I see are the PPG logos in the corners of the glass. Thanks for the information

Replacing rear window after color change

I am not much of a painter myself. My dad does all the spraying, I just help with prep and buffing. I feel like the tape line would be more noticeable at the upper body line than if I just painted the area that the current window covers.

Replacing rear window after color change

The gasket/seal is not really cracked or dry rotted at all. It is a little faded, but the main problem is just the water leak. The glass shop I went to is going to try to reseal it, but they said they can’t guarantee they can remove the glass without messing it up. If it messes up that’s when...

Replacing rear window after color change

Yeah I guess it’s kind of hit or miss with aftermarket glass. I may try to just tape it up good and try to hide the line in the gap a little bit. The paint job is hardly a year old with very few flaws. I don’t really have the time or experience to do all the blending process.

Replacing rear window after color change

Me and my dad painted it ourselves. Didn’t really think about having a problem with the rear window when we did it. I was mainly just curious if it was true that the solid window didn’t cover as much of the seams. It might be worth it to paint that area while it’s out

Replacing rear window after color change

My factory sliding back glass is leaking really bad, so I need to get it replaced. My truck was originally light blue, and I painted it black. The company I chose to replace the glass told me that the new sliding rear windows they can order leave a decent sized gap on the sides of the rear...

    Drop shackles + lift blocks

So I have run into an issue in swapping the rear leaf springs on my 97 k1500. I was going to replace the stock springs with a leaf pack off of a 2500 since I’m going to be towing quite a bit , but the way the new springs are arched causes them to hit the exhaust tip on my dual exhaust. If I...
