    The Stupid Axle Questions Thread

It'll bolt to the springs. If it's a 9.5 the u-joint is larger than the 8.5.

    The Stupid Axle Questions Thread

You'll have to use new carrier bearings, but if the pinion and axle bearings are good I'd run them. 9.5s are pretty robust. I put an 03 HD 9.5 rear in my 98.. swapped in a used 4:10 gear set and cut the Gov-loc weight. The bearings looked great. Been running it a couple years now. I'm kinda a...

    Water Pump Relacement

On the Vortec 5.7 water pump bolts 3 are blind and one is open to coolant. I believe it's the drivers side bottom bolt. I would use any sealant very sparingly on the cooling system.. the squished out part eventually breaks off and finds it's way to the radiator core clogging passages. The...

Bad fuel feed and return assembly pipe

Yes I've seen them leak.. but not enough to cause a misfire. I've seen the lines on the frame leading up to that assembly corrode internally causing injectors to get clogged.

I have the same rear.. 4.10, Gov-loc, semi 9.5. I run non synthetic 80w 90 no additive. Felpro gasket. Works great for me.

    The Stupid Axle Questions Thread

Not really an axle question.. but it's most likely your AC pressure equalizing. This is especially noticeable on pre-96 modles.

9.5 14 bolt swap questions, beat to death I know............

The 454SS 9.5 axle is different from 9.5 6 or 8 lug housings. It had 8.5 C1500 drums.. the backing plates mounts are in different locations. Not sure if 8.5 5 lug backing plates would bolt up to a 9.5 6 lug but the drums wouldn't reach the shoes anyway.

I second that.. I've swapped SUV rears to trucks and vice versa.

    Rear end drop when accelerating

If it's a one piece driveshaft.

    Rear end drop when accelerating

If its rear end clunk when putting vehicle in gear it most likely would be excessive ring & pinion backlash. If its after stopping and then accelerating and you feel a jolt its usually the slip yolk binding.

    Rear end drop when accelerating

I've delt with this many many times... Pull the drive shaft and grease the YOLK with Motorcraft XG-8 grease. Motorcraft Ptfe Lubricant Xg-8 Grease

98/99 vortec 5.7 engine data needed

Two things come to mind with the symptoms you described.. I had new outta the box injection conversion assemblies with a hung injector dumping fuel all the time. Does fuel pressure drop after the engine is turned off? Also I've seen injectors swapped and installed in the wrong holes. Your fuel...

    98 Vortec 350 - comp ratio

Right.. machine shops around here have gotten expensive. I drill them with a drill press and a new quality drill bit. I machine down the guides with the Comp Cams tool and a hand drill.

    98 Vortec 350 - comp ratio

I had to drill heads for push rod holes with 1.6 rockers and they're still pretty close.. The Jegs rockers look pretty good if they are self aligning.

    98 Vortec 350 - comp ratio

I ran the LT1 cam with stock compression or maybe even less due to aftermarket head gaskets. I used the suburban for towing... so it wasn't near 10:1. I had shorty headers, 2 to 1 Flowmaster, 3 inch tailpipe and K&N intake. It ran strong , pulled great and sounded good. I put 93 in it a few...

    98 Vortec 350 - comp ratio

Yes sir, I ran a stock LT1 cam in my 98 C2500 Suburban.. stock springs, retainers and reused the roller lifters. Stock tune on 87. PCM didn't pull timing. (LT1 cam is just a tiny bit more lift and intake duration than the Ramjet cam)

    98 Vortec 350 - comp ratio

You can run 87 or 89 with just decking the heads to true them up and the .030 gaskets. My 98 has had the heads decked .010 and .015 steel gaskets and have ran 87 with no problem but I normally try to run 91 due to tune. As far as the cam, I would go with the Ramjet because of the weight of a...

To all those planning on a nbs master cylinder swap

For anyone reading this.. the RESIDUAL valve is NOT in the master cylinder. It's in the combination valve, located on the side of the ABS module if you have one or in the brake proportioning/combo valve below the master cylinder. When swapping to NBS MC with rear drums you will still have a...
