Wrong transmission for my 96?

Pulled the trans on my 96 K1500 4l60e to replace with another. I was told the trans that I bought to replace it was from a 98 k1500 but the bell housing is totally different.

Can I even use this trans?

that trans is from a nbs 99 and up gm wont work,you need a 96 or 97 4l60 trans

96 is a 1 year only tranny, 96 has a removable lower bell housing cover to get torque converter bolts, unlike the newever ones with the small round inspection cover. So the starter might not mount right.

Connectors might be different

95 is the one year only trans, you need one from a 96/97 those are the 2 yrs that will work

Could I use the 98 trans if I bought a 98 starter?

Do the 98's use the same torque converter as my 96?

no its not gonna work hate to say it there are a few differences between them i went thru this when we got our 99 silverado I had a 4l60 from a 97 and couldnt use it had to get the one like you just bought

Well I guess I'll post this 98 on Craigslist. Hopefully I can find a 96/97 today!

The difference is in the wiring. A 98 trans has more wires in the round plug on the right side of the trans. Other than that it would have bolted in. The bellhousing looks different because it's one piece but the bolt pattern is the same...
