Will it hurt to leave it off? The ARP main studs aren't long enough to clear the rod bolts without them contacting the tray. This is the only engine I have built with a windage tray so I doubt it is a necessity seeing as we have high horsepower motors without them. What is the function of it?

I didnt use a tray in my 383 in my camaro and I didnt notice any negative effects. I think the worse that will happen is a bit more oil may get splashed up onto the crankshaft which MAY cause a ittle more drag in the rotating assembly. Will you notice it, I doubt it.
I didnt run a tray because it interfered with the crank and I was using the stock Fbody oil pan. That was 7 years ago though.
