I have a 1996 Chevy Silverado C1500 ext.cab 3rd door, and I found a pair of Kicker 6x9 speakers locally and I can get em for $40. This seems like a pretty good deal to me, but I am not sure if they'd fit my front OR back speakers. I only have the dash 2 speakers in the front and the 2 rear speakers in my truck as far as I remember.

I recall getting speakers done in my '94 Chevy Silverado K1500 ext.cab, but I swear he ended up putting 6x9 in...maybe I am wrong. Anyone with info. would be appreciated.

I put 5.25 in place of the 4x6 in my 99. I had to trim a little bit of the metal away for the speakers to fit. You'd just have to do more trimming for a 6x9 is all. It wasn't a big deal really.

In my 98 C-1500, there are the two small tweeters in the door armrests, two 6.5 inch round in the bottom of the doors, and two 4 by 6 ovals in the rear. It's a standard cab. I thought of putting two higher quality 6.5 inch round speakers in the doors, but ran out of time one day. The 6.5 inch door speakers are pretty low end, and I think replacing them would make a big difference.

In regards to the 6x9 retrofit... Don't do it. Lots of work for very little gain, and you want the majority of sound in front of you, not behind you.

Also, I checked my truck and I was totally wrong. I have speakers in the back. none on the dash, but do have the door panel ones. What size are they? 6.5 inch?

Yep, the door speakers are 6 and a half inches round. A GOOD 6.5 inch speaker can make good bass, so before you go for big subs, try good speakers in the doors first. Can't hurt to try.
