But, but... It says Max on it! It has to be better,,, Right?:D
Max's had flat top pistons, whereas your run of the mill 6.0 had dished pistons. This upped the compression a little bit. A few more ponies (25 or so) than a lq4. The tune was a little different too. I don't know the particulars. I've had both and there is a noticeable difference in the way they run. I believe the Max could be had in 06-07 classics and all the way to 13 nnbs. Escalades and maybe Denali's had the same variation of engine as far back as 02 but it was not designated "Max". Believe they just called it 6.0 H.O. Also known as the Lq9. I'm a fan of the 6.0s. Once they are tuned a little better they are cake! The one in my 71 routinely gets 16-18 mpg. I've seen 20 on road trips. The emissions crap is what kills them! I know it can't be helped in some places but around here I've figured out the loop holes!

I believe the Max was a rectangle port headed engine, so a big departure from the LQ4/LQ9 realm.

Interesting, kinda like how the offered the L33 5.3 in the 05+ Classic crew cab trucks. Were they actually Max trucks or just 6.0 trucks? Max engine was a Gen IV is why I ask, I was under the impression all the classics were still Gen III.

I have an '05 B VIN L33. They were only offered in 05-07 Ext. Cab 4x4. It's an all aluminum 5.3 that uses flat top pistons from the 4.8 and 799 heads.

Gen IV LH6 that came in 05-09 Trailblazer/Envoy and 07-13 Silverado was the same way but added AFM (gayfm) and 58x reluctor. Those are everywhere.
