Transmission Swap

My 1990 Chevy truck ½ ton short bed regular cab 5.7 TBI transmission went out. I have a tranny from an 84 Chevy truck ½ ton long bed regular cab 5.0 carb that I part it out but kept the tranny that was running fine when removed. I was wondering if I can replace the tranny into the 1990? Both are 700r4 but have different connections at the tail shaft maybe switch the tail shafts around? Your help will be appreciated

do you still have the tranny that went out? if you do you would proabably have to use the auto shifter (P R N D 2 1) and switch out the tail shafts. if you can do that and if it looks like it will bolt up then you should have no problems. if there are all you have to do is take whatever it is off of the ruined 700r4 and put it on the other 700r4.
