Couldn't believe there is no thread about tires.. Maybe I'm blind.

Anyway. I just bought a 98 2500. Came with a BRAND NEW set of 285s. (Slip was for $1300) well I only bought the truck because it came with a plow. With the plow on the tires rub, so I need to get a smaller set. Can anyone help me out? Tires must be 265/75/16. I'm looking for the BEST traction in snow/ice. Should I get studs put it?

Have you tried cranking up the torsion bars a touch?? It'd raise and stiffen the front end so it wouldn't sag as bad with the extra weight of the plow. We always crank ours up an inch or two for the winter on the one Chevy plow truck at work.

If you're dead set on getting smaller tires however. I would highly recommend the Goodyear Wrangeler Duratracs. It's what we run on all the plow trucks. Awesome tire all around, especially in the snow. And mountain snowflake rated to boot.

Cranking up the torsion bars will fix it, but if you are dead set on 265s, these are the best tires I've ran on anything, they are 10ply and are stud ready. Plus $150 a tire is great!

I ran these on my 02 impala last winter and went where 4x4s couldn't up on the strip mine. They also wear excellent. I was chewing up tires in 5-10k miles on the impala. I ran these 6k miles without a bit of wear. I also ran these on my 91 thunderbird from November to the following June when I sold the car and the were like new. Without studs I still never had any issues in the rwd thunderbird.

if you have a 2500 that will fit 285/75R16 tires DO IT
they will help a lot more with traction

my 1500 can only fit 268/75r16s and these are heavy trucks... they need big tires to carry them through snow and mud.
