he has a 89 so if he found a 91 needle gauge it is 98% plug and play, matter of moving 3 wires

a th400 uses a 32 spline yoke and usually 1350 joints, a 700r4 is 27 spline and usually 1310 or 1330 ujoint so there is another cost along with shortening the shaft for the longer trans

i can't use the drive shaft from a newer truck? (one that is from a single cab?)

Does your wiring harness have the lockup torque convertor wiring in it, if not you will need a standalone lock up kit such as this, I have installed several and I also personally ran one for 10 year's in my 80 model with no problem's. http://www.jegs.com/i/Painless+Performance+Products/764/60109/10002/-1

i'm doubting it.. i don't know much about transmissions to start with.

thanks, i'll bookmark it and get started reading.. haha might be cheaper and easier to buy a carhauler or trailer it on the interstates.

but all this time i wanted to build something to drive...not haul.

yeah...and with the older muscle cars and street rods using them, parts shouldn't be hard to find and retro.

maybe if the 4l60e length is the same and the wheelbase is the same, the cost to shorten a shaft is fairly cheap too if it's a steel shaft.

or you just need to find a 700r4 equipped 88-92 and rob parts from it, 88-90 use the same ecm and harness hookups behind the dash and it all plugs right in so if you find a 88-90 with the v8/700r4 to be a donor its really easy to just plug in the engine/trans harness into your existing harness behind the glovebox, did the same thing with my 88 to go from a 350/sm465 to a big block/th400 from a 89 1 ton, all plug and play.
